How Much Will This Cost Me???

My husband and I have a give and take relationship. I give a little and he takes a lot. (That's only half the time.) The rest of the time, I give a lot and he gives a lot. That's how writing works.

I do all the work that goes into the writing, and until I can start making money, he is the one providing all the funds.

Last month, the providing became more than what the writing was. But that's not exactly true.

I set up the website you are reading this on. He paid for the domain, but I put in the brainwork to figure out how to get this website working, and I think the ongoing process is looking quite good.

I needed business cards to pass out to the people I meet when I'm out and about, and he paid for them.

Before that, he paid for a press release and to get my books copyrighted to keep them from being stolen, which has happened in the past.

Last week, I told him I wanted to get SEO for my website and do some advertising.

I saw his eyebrow raise as he continued to stare at me. Ten seconds later, he got up, pulled out his wallet, and handed his credit card to me.

I couldn't figure out what he was doing until he smiled. He told me he was sure this was also going to cost him money, and he was getting prepared before I asked.

He forgot that until a year ago; I was an SEO specialist. I knew how to do SEO and I also still had a couple of contacts, thanks to the people I worked with.

As he put his card away, I started ticking off all the staples we needed for the pantry when we went shopping this week.

He grumbled, and my amazing ogre almost roared. He asked how much and now I was the one to smile. It wasn't much more than $100.

He still loves me, and he is proud of what I've accomplished as a writer.

Speaking of ogres, look for a new children's book coming this fall. "The Ogre in the Basement". "Santa Told Us To It" will be available for sale in October.
