What does one say when...

I often wonder if everyone has the same boring conversations that I have with my family.

My daughter is a general manager at a truck stop. Whenever we are around her, she talks about trucks, financials, and other things that are important to her and the running of the business.

Since I used to run a business, I understand what she is going through, and I enjoy the conversation, but my husband, her dad, doesn't find our daughter nearly as impressive as I do. I am proud of her accomplishments because I know the hard hours and stress that go with her position. My husband only knows how irritated he got when my ten-hour day ended up being fourteen to sixteen hours, and he sees her doing the same thing.

My son is a plumber/HVAC specialist. He and my husband can talk for hours about work, and I get bored. All I hear is 'blah blah blah' and it is all garbled. I zone out and begin wondering what I should do inside.

I love my husband, and I love all our kids, but they often bore me. I want someone to discuss books with me. I want someone to understand how important it is to me to finish the current book and move on to the next book.

My sister passed away, and she was the only one who understood. When I told her George hadn't been talking to me for a while, she understood what I meant.

I sometimes feel like there is someone whispering the words to me. George attempts to tell me what dialogue I should use, or attempts to persuade me to change the storyline. Unfortunately, he is often right, so I listen to him.

YES! George is just my inner voice speaking, but no one needs to know that.

Last week, I told my four-year-old grandson about my new book. He held his hand up and stopped me mid-sentence. In his matter-of-fact way, he informed it was way over his head and I should talk to mommy. He wanted to go ride his car and take his baby brother with him.

He kissed me and gave me a hug, but I was boring him and his new hot wheels car was more fun.

So...my question is: What does one say when talking to someone who couldn't care less what you do with your life? What do you say when the person is boring, or?...

I think I have an answer. I walk away and go play with my grandkids. The best part about being a writer is that I can write when I want and I don't have a set schedule. I can always find another story in what is happening with the kids, or what we see in a rain cloud.

I'm not saying it's boring being with you all, but I'm off to play with my grandkids now.

Happy reading everyone, and please make one of my books one you are reading.
